1965 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider Hits The Auction Block

This 1965 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider features coachwork from Carrozzeria Touring and was purchased by the late owner in 1985. Power is from a 2,584cc DOHC inline-six, which is equipped with triple Solex carburetors and mated to a 5-speed gearbox. In 1986, the car was shipped back to Italy, where it was refurbished by Auto Sport in Modena. Work included refinishing the body in white and reupholstering the interior in blue leather. The car was later off the road for about 25 years, during which time it was reportedly stored in a climate-controlled garage. In 2016, Auto Elite of Tenafly, New Jersey changed the fluids, serviced the fuel system and brakes, and installed a new exhaust system. The car now runs and drives, though further sorting is recommended before it is driven any significant distance. This 2600 is being offered by the seller in New Jersey on behalf of the late owner’s family. The sale includes service records and a clear Montana title.

This car is one of 2,255 examples produced and reportedly left the factory finished in Alfa red. The color change was performed during the 1986 refurbishment, at which point the custom-made double hump convertible top cover was added, which is detailed in the gallery below. Noted issues include a misaligned passenger side door striker and an inoperable trunk lock, as well as some bubbling in the paint around the wheel wells and door sill. Corrosion is also noted on the underside of the chrome bumpers.

The black convertible top has been stowed in the down position for a number of years and requires some adjustment in order to close properly. A few imperfections are present in the material, which have been highlighted in the gallery below. Factory steel wheels wear a set of polished covers, and a repainted spare resides in the trunk.

The 2-seat interior was reupholstered during the 1986 refurbishment in dark blue leather over matching carpet. A rear partition was installed behind the seats along with the custom soft top cover.

Instrumentation is from Veglia and includes a 150-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, a water and oil temperature gauge, and an oil pressure/fuel level indicator. 38k miles are shown on the 5-digit odometer, and the seller indicates that the fuel gauge registers improperly.

The aluminum 2,584cc DOHC inline-six is equipped with a triple Solex induction system and comes paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. After sitting unused in a climate-controlled garage for over two decades, the seller had Auto Elite of Tenafly, New Jersey change the fluids, clean the fuel system, and service the brakes in August 2016. A new exhaust system has also been installed.
