PHOTOGRAPHER BEHIND THE VIRAL ROYAL WEDDING PHOTO EXPLAINS

By Bridal Theory / Posted on May 21, 2018

There’s always that one photo.  The one that takes your breath away and you say… wow.  While the royal wedding was beautifully captured by a number of talented photographers, one image stands out against the rest.  Staff photographer, Yui Mok, for the Press Association is the man behind the viral royal wedding photo circling the web.  The beautiful image features the newly married Duke and Duchess of Sussex exiting the royal wedding in the carriage.  However, the ANGLE of the image is what has captured the world’s attention.  From the high vantage point, you can see the sweet body language and connection between Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

The world quickly set out trying to identify the photographer behind the magic shot of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.  One such person took to Twitter to ask around.  Luckily the photographer caught the random tweet and now the mystery is solved!  Yui Mok eplains how he was able to capture the unique angle, “I was positioned on the roof of George IV Gateway of Windsor Castle, and they passed directly beneath me during their carriage procession.” Mok used a Cannon 1D MarkII with a 70-200.

Yui also showed on Twitter a few more shots from his aerial vantage point showing that sometimes positioning is everything. The photographer’s positing from the George IV Gateway proved to be a golden spot.

Despite his new social fame and viral work, Yui Mok remains humble and grateful thanking the team at PA stating, “I should also add a big thanks to the @PA picture desk, who crop and tidy up the raw images that we send to them directly from our cameras on big jobs like this, before they are issued to the wider world. They tend to be unsung, whilst photographers end up grabbing all the glory.”

It’s a great thing this talented photographer didn’t decide to “drop his camera” after his “drop the mic” worthy shot! This is an image that will go down beautifully into history. Congratulations again to the new Duke and Duchess.
